PCA LEADERSHIP CENTER

Plano, Texas

The Prestonwood Christian Academy Leadership Center is situated on a 130-acre campus for Prestonwood Baptist Church, one of the largest churches in North America.  The campus for the Christian Academy, Middle and Upper Schools that are affiliated with the church, is tightly configured on twenty-five of those acres.  The current Master Plan includes existing and future facilities for classrooms and meeting areas, offices, performing/visual arts, and generous accommodations for athletics and recreation.

The new 22,000 s.f. building includes a multipurpose training/conference room for 300 persons, pre-function and reception areas, consolidation of offices for faculty and staff, and space for related amenities and support, and is positioned within an existing courtyard, adjacent and connected to the existing Upper School.  This proximity was dictated by preferred functional adjacencies between the two buildings and by a high density Master Plan that limits land available for future facilities.  Public areas and the training room occupy most of the main level while offices, oriented to northern light and views to a lake, are organized on the upper and lower edges of the building.  Exterior treatments take their cue from the surrounding structure.  Existing concrete tilt-wall panels are reinterpreted into interlocking ribbons of plaster and glass that conceal, reveal, and ultimately integrate new with old.
